After the lesson, complete the facts and opinions worksheet for ONE of the topics below and try to include 5 points for each fact and opinion. You will need to do some research online for your facts.
Topics: Children should be able to use cellphones in school. Kids should get allowance I should be able to go to bed later. I should be allowed to have a pet (or another pet!). I should be able to stay at home on my own. I should be allowed candy every day. Nobody should litter. Everyone should have to exercise every day. There should be no homework. The school day should be shorter. Animals should not be kept in captivity. Mining should be more restricted in the Yukon.

What is persuasive writing? Persuasive writing is a written form of an oral debate and can be a fun and interesting style of writing for students. Persuasive writing is used to convince or persuade a reader that the writer’s opinion of a topic or cause is correct.
Facts: - use reasons and evidence -A fact can be proven right or wrong.
Opinion: -is a personal perspective about something/someone or anything and can't be proven.
To support the persuasive paragraph we use FACTS AND OPINIONS. FACTS can be proven, OPINIONS can't because they are personal perspectives about the topic. Complete the worksheet below.

Persuasive writing uses different techniques to persuade the audience. Put your arguments from last week into the worksheet below to the category that they match. If you do not have an argument that will answer one of the categories, try to find a new argument to include. (complete on handout)
Persuasive writing also includes opposing viewpoints. Use the same argument you chose last week. Make a list of arguments against what you chose. (complete on handout)
